    About Capsicum nutrition

Capsicum (bell pepper) is a high-value vegetable grown in open fields and protected cultivation. It responds strongly to fertigation, and consistent calcium and potassium supply is the key to thick, glossy, marketable fruits.

    Climate
Mild climate, ideally about 20-25 °C. Night temperatures above about 24 °C or below 15 °C reduce fruit set.
    Soil
Well-drained, fertile loam with good organic matter, pH around 6.0-7.0.

    Stage-wise nutrient management for Capsicum

What the crop needs most at each growth stage.

    1. Transplanting & establishment

Phosphorus for rooting and a basal dose of organic manure.

    2. Vegetative growth

Nitrogen and potassium in balance; magnesium for leaf health.

    3. Flowering & fruit set

Calcium and boron to reduce flower drop and improve fruit set.

    4. Fruit development & harvest

High potassium for wall thickness, colour and shelf life; continue calcium.

    Common nutrient deficiencies in Capsicum

How to recognise them in the field and how they are usually corrected.

    Calcium

    Symptoms

Blossom-end rot: sunken, papery patches at the blossom end of fruits.

    Correction

Calcium nitrate through drip or foliar calcium sprays; avoid irregular irrigation.

    Boron

    Symptoms

Flower and small-fruit drop, deformed fruits.

    Correction

    Foliar boron spray before flowering.

    Magnesium

    Symptoms

    Interveinal yellowing on older leaves.

    Correction

Magnesium sulphate through drip or foliar spray.
