    About Citrus nutrition

Citrus crops such as Nagpur mandarin, sweet orange, sweet lime and lemon are perennial and need nutrition matched to flushes of new growth, flowering and fruit development. Micronutrient deficiencies (zinc, iron and manganese) are very common and show up as leaf yellowing.

    Climate
Subtropical to tropical climate, about 13-37 °C; grown widely in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and the North East.
    Soil
Deep, well-drained loam, pH around 5.5-7.5; sensitive to waterlogging and salinity.

    Stage-wise nutrient management for Citrus

What the crop needs most at each growth stage.

    1. New flush

Nitrogen with zinc and manganese for healthy new leaves.

    2. Flowering & fruit set

Boron and zinc for fruit set; reduce excess nitrogen.

    3. Fruit development

Potassium and magnesium for fruit size and juice content.

    4. Fruit maturity

Potassium for sugar, colour and peel quality.

Young leaves turn yellow while veins stay green, common in alkaline soils.

    Correction

Chelated iron foliar or soil application.

    Magnesium

    Symptoms

Yellow inverted-V patterns on older leaves.

    Correction

Magnesium sulphate through soil or foliar application.
